Bad Bitch Money

How to know your worth and get your money’s worth

I loveeeeee Instagram. Truly I do, I love the picture/video format, the ease of interaction, and the way you can make it into a personal storybook. I have a private Instagram with no friends on it that I use simply to record photos of my achievements and proud moments.

And running @bad.bitch.money has been a life changer for me. I am constantly surrounded by people who are doing the work in the money literacy space and it is incredible. I am so inspired by what I am seeing and also what I am learning. Of course, about money and finance and strategies for myself and my clients… But also about running a small business, engaging with the community, social media branding, and content creation. It’s been nothing short of amazing.

I have a personal financial advisor, and an accountant, both found through Instagram. I have a broker I’ve worked with who I can recommend to my friends. I have business customers and new clients. All from the good old insta. And I’m so, so proud of the work I’ve done to raise the profile of financial counseling and normalize issues with money.

But DAMN does it come at a great personal cost. The average daily time spent using social media is 2h 27m.1I think I hit that EASILY!! I CONSTANTLY think about Instagram. Sometimes it takes an hour to get a reel done with captions and a content base. People DM me all the time. Something I post flops and I think about it for days. It’s toxic as all hell and it’s very hard to manage. I have to delete the app every weekend in order to maintain my Sunday off,(and get uni done, LAWD), and have to schedule weeks off multiple times a year. I have to try and batch content for when I am losing my mind over all my competing priorities. ALL OF THIS IS FOR A FREE PROJECT. Send help!!!

WhenIhave the app the rest of the week it’s so easy to procrastinate on there for sometimes MORE THAN AN HOUR at a time. Like, I’ve got a law degree to finish!!!

It will be interesting to see what long-term studies start to show about our ability to connect with others and our ability to maintain attention span in the wake of a social media generation. I am not sure I’m ready to find out.

I have loved everything that has come from my Instagram, except for the crippling nervous anxiety that comes from having an Instagram.

Hard to know what to do about it, apart from manually deleting the app and scheduling breaks. Instagram is also my primary news source (don’t judge me, my TV isn’t plugged in) so I don’t feel ready to get rid of it altogether. What do you think? What are your social media boundary hacks?? Let’s chat.
